A common issue we deal with in Support is Touchscreens not working properly. Shane Jones provides some advice on how to care for your touchscreen.
Touch screen Cleaning Instructions
- Close out of any open applications (POS, Online Ordering etc). Power off the POS terminal, this way, you can see everything that needs to be cleaned and you will avoid starting any applications while you are cleaning.
- Crumbs in between the bezel (plastic surround) and touch screen are a major cause of screens being out of calibration. The best way to avoid this is to make sure your screens remain clean.
- Wet a soft, lint-free or microfiber cloth with distilled water (clean tap water if you do not have distilled). Wring out as much water as you can. Make sure the cloth is damp but not wet. Wipe the screen in a gentle motion to remove dust, oil, or fingerprint smudges. Ensure that if your terminal has a bezel that you do NOT wipe crumbs down in between the bezel and screen.
- Another option is to use a screen cleaner kit that includes antistatic wipes. You can buy this at various electronic or online stores. Spray a little solution on a wipe then rub it gently across the screen.
- Finish cleaning the touch screen with a dry lint-free cloth to wipe any excess moisture, then turn it back on.
- Complete a Screen Calibration (calibration program will be on the desktop or in Control Panel).
Tips & Warnings
- Clean the touch screen regularly at least once a week to keep it running to its maximum.
- Avoid using standard glass cleaners for cleaning touch screen monitors since they contain ammonia or alcohol that damages the screen over time.
